Neilson Active Holidays & Swiss Travel Service, 14 – 17 Dec 09

Graubünden Tourism was delighted to introduce Neilson Active Holidays and the Swiss Travel Service to the winter wonderland of Davos. The trip from 14th to 17th December hosted five reservations agents who embarked upon a fun-filled adventure in Switzerland’s no.1 holiday destination.

As the train climbed up into Davos Platz, located 1600 metres above sea level, the group watched as the breath-taking snow-covered landscape passed by. Upon arrival, the trip kicked off with a visit to the Morosani Hotel Schweizerhof to see the hotel’s new makeover including contemporary reception and conference facilities. The visit was followed by an aperitif in the lounge at the welcoming three star Hotel Bahnhof Terminus which is gearing up for a large expansion project in 2010 and 2011. After a warm drink in the après-ski Bolgen Plaza, the group returned to the kind hospitality of the Sunstar Parkhotel to have a delicious four-course meal in the cosy dining room with breath-taking views of the snow-capped mountains.

With a clear blue sky and perfect ski conditions the group set off to Swissrent-a-sport to get kitted out for the slopes. With the luxury of two private ski instructors for the day both beginners and enthusiasts polished up on their ski skills with lunch at the scenic Chalet Güggel at just under 2000metres above sea level. After an action-packed day skiing the group headed up on the funicular to the historic Schatzalp hotel overlooking Davos. The hotel has a fascinating story to tell and as a listed building has remained true to its original design. With the planned ‘slow’ skiing area due to open in December, the Schatzalp is also preparing for an exciting new project to build a restaurant and accommodation tower complex which will reach over 100metres high next to the hotel. After a traditional Swiss fondue dinner at the Schatzalp restaurant it was time to take the fun way down on a toboggan track in the snow lit by fairy lights.

On the third day the group headed over to test the slopes of Parsenn with lunch at the Höhenweg Restaurant, followed by an afternoon to take advantage of the spa and wellness facilities at the Sunstar Parkhotel. The evening continued with a cocktail party personally arranged by the Sunstar hotel’s management followed by another delicious four-course dinner. Following dinner it was time to experience the local nightlife and taste some Swiss wines in the Ex-bar.

For the final day the group was given a tour of the five star Fluela hotel in Davos Dorf, the only original hotel in Davos which has maintained its wooden fittings and is designed in a traditional Swiss style with modern amenities. After a short train journey to Davos Klosters, everyone was then treated to a horse-drawn carriage ride through the snow to Alp Garfiun for a delicious light lunch of Graubünden regional specialties. Upon their return to Davos Klosters, the group was invited to the Hotel Alpina to see its diverse range of modern and traditional rooms each with balconies.

Before heading back to Zurich airport, there was just time to do some souvenir shopping in Davos Klosters including some delicious Swiss chocolate. It was a successful trip all round, giving a detailed insight into the magic of a winter season in Graubünden as well as the many activities and fantastic resorts on offer in the region to suit all ages.

"Thank you so much for one of the best Fam trips I have ever been on. We were spoilt with: The scenery, the skiing, private tuition, meals, sledges rides by star light (the high light of my trip), horse driven sleigh rides and most of all the hospitality."
