At 2,126 metres above sea-level, Juf is the highest European village inhabited year-round.  It is part of the municipality of Avers. This municipality covers an area of 9,309 hectares. Its administrative centre is Avers-Cresta, situated at 1,958 metres. In Juf itself, a population of about 30 people lives year-round. Most work as Alpine farmers in this sparse high valley at the foot of the Septimer Pass and Staller Mountain.

In winter, Juf is a starting-point for many different ski tours.

 

Getting there


by public transport

Take the Post bus from Chur to Andeer, then transfer to another Post bus that goes to Juf.

 

by car

from Basel - Zürich: take the Autobahn as far as Reichenau, then the main road for Thusis-Andeer-Splügen, and take the Avers/Juf exit. Take the road to Avers/Juf.
